In 3rd grade, I would visit the nearby preschoolers of California Avenue School where I helped bring ease to their learning process. Gradually, my love for these children with Autism grew far past the time I spent volunteering at their school and a more personal relationship developed with each child. After years of seeing these children with Autism grow into young adults, I came to understand that the support and guidance received as preschoolers slowly declined as they approached their teen years. It was then, that it became my goal to bring a sense of community to those who have Autism. The structure needed is simply forgotten when needed most.  I will unite a community for Autism, bringing those who struggle with their disabilities to their highest potential as they reach adulthood.
What are some common signs of autism?
  • Impaired social interaction
  • May fail to respond to their names
  • Often avoid eye contact with other people
  • Some may engage in repetitive movements such as rocking and twirling
  • Some may engage in self-abusive behavior such as biting or head-banging

Is there a cure for autism?

There isn’t medicine that cures autism however, I have witnessed several young children overcome their disorders through early intervention programs. I have worked with preschoolers who entered school unable to communicate verbally who are now integrated into mainstream high schools. To me, that’s a cure!
